BROADSONIC Optical Ultrasonic Sensor

BROADSONIC is a professional-grade optical ultrasonic sensor from Ultracoustics Technologies (Edmonton-based). Unlike conventional piezoelectric sensors limited to ~100 kHz, BROADSONIC operates at 5 MHz bandwidth using Fabry-Perot interferometry—laser light in a micro-cavity shifts pattern with acoustic pressure.

Key specs: 100 µPa/√Hz sensitivity, >80 dB dynamic range, non-contact operation (millimeters to centimeters), USB 2.0 interface, 10 MS/s sampling.

The optical approach makes it inherently immune to electromagnetic interference, making it ideal for environments with high EMI. Includes purpose-built acquisition software and datasheet available on request.

Relevant for acoustic research, industrial measurement, and engineers working with high-frequency sound phenomena.
