Why we can't have nice software

I've often said something along the lines of "I'd be happy if some apps never received an update ever again". VS Code is one of them, I stopped caring about the new features and reading the release notes years ago. I get that progress is nice and obviously tools need to move, but it's an interesting thought to ponder.

Certain tools I've used for years without ever upgrading or updating and I'm happy. But business gotta business, engineers gotta get paid, and what better rationale than inventing reasons to spend time coding?
